First version ordered directly by Britain (February 1940): DB-7A engines, better armour and larger fuel tanks for daylight light bombing. The French DB-73 (480 ordered, 240 built by Boeing) was the same aircraft with French equipment and was completed as the Boston III; 151 went to the USSR and 22 of a USAAF batch to No. 22 Squadron RAAF.
